A GOOD QUESTION

As many of you may have noticed, the admin team has decided a lot of the categories currently being used on the wiki are pointless, grammatically incorrect, or otherwise no longer needed on the wiki.

Unfortunately, this means the spam that I have been producing changing categories is going to continue for some time. Apologies!

This blog post is here to a) let you know this is even happening and b) let you know which categories are no longer in use (and what to use instead!). If you want to help the admins out, feel free to go in and fix up any of your own pages that fall into any of the categories mentioned here.

Categories That Will Be Replaced[]

and their replacements AND reasonings, for your benefit:

  • Alice In Wonderland is being replaced with Alice in Wonderland
    • Why? The latter is grammatically correct.
  • Nursery rhyme and Nursery Rhyme are being replaced with Nursery Rhymes
    • Why? Nursery Rhymes aligns more with our other categories (and having 3 names for what should be one category is pretty excessive and confusing).
  • Peter Pan is being replaced by Peter and Wendy
    • Why? Peter and Wendy is the fairytales actual name and we want to discourage people categorizing pages with the names of roles.
  • Related to Actual Characters is being replaced by Related to Canon Characters
    • Why? The latter sounds better and aligns more with our other categories.

Categories That Will Be Deleted[]

and what you can use instead AND ALSO reasonings

  • Ever After High
    • The admin team has deemed this unnecessary as we automatically assume any given OC attends EAH.
    • What to use instead? Nothing! As mentioned above, we assume this about an OC.
  • Magic
    • This doesn't fit with our categorization system, it's vague, and there are better categories for this (not to mention, everything in EAH is sorta ~magical~ anyway).
    • What to use instead? If your OC has magic, the category is Magic users.
  • Students
    • Once again, deemed unnecessary since most EAH OCs are students.
    • What to use instead? Nothing! You should use other categories (e.g., Adults, Teachers, Faculty) to indicate when this isn't the case for your OC.
  • Chinese fairytales, Irish fairytales, and Japanese Fairy Tales
    • We don't use this system for any other culture or nationality. We aren't starting it for these three.
    • What to use instead? If your OC is Chinese, Irish, or Japanese, just use that. It is unnecessary to use the nationality of the story you are using when categorizing your OC. If your OC is from Kenya but their story is British, you should tag as Kenyan and that is all.

I hope this helped! This will likely be updated as the admin team finds more categories we need to fix up.
