Prisma Moss

Con men claim the blood of kings. Kings claim the blood of gods. Prisma Moss might have both flowing in her veins but she doesn't let it get to her head. Prisma is the granddaughter of Tangle and Mossy. She is destined to follow in her grandmother's footsteps. Descended from the Old Man of the Sea and heiress to the great title of the Mistress of the Silver Moon, she holds power as heavy as the whole world upon her shoulders. Prisma is entitled to not one but three roles crucial to maintaining a centuries old cycle, one she wishes to break out of. Prisma, therefore, aligns with the Rebels.

Character[]

Personality[]

Appearance[]

Prisma’s normally ocean green hair turns mint green when she comes in contact with water (with the exception of drinking) or is using her magic powers. It is worth noting that Prisma usually walks barefoot. If she wears shoes, they would always be either flip flops or sandals with the thinnest of straps and the least padding possible. Her soles have become callused and cracked from years of wear and tear. These stone hard feet are meant as a statement against the goblins that roamed the mines of Gwyntystorm, whose feet were delicate. They assumed humans to be same and mocked their shoe wearing. But Prisma wishes to be the human whose feet are so hard she wouldn't need them as much.

Abilities[]

  • Hydrokinesis: This ability is tied to the moon. Prisma is at her strongest whenever a full moon is out. Prisma is required to be close to an existing source of water to use her powers since she is unable to create water out of thin air.

Since she is able to control how water behaves, Prisma is able to part seas and walk on water as if it were made of jelly. She likes surfing, which she treats as skateboarding on water and uses her powers to do fun tricks and elevate herself to heights not easily achieved by other means.

  • Healing
  • Magic infusion: Any object or substance, if work is done to it by Prisma, will recieve magical properties that can be activated later on. She can bless waters with either poison or healing and bring creatures made from heathers to life. Taking advantage of this, Sophinx used broomsticks she bought from Prisma as dancing partners.
  • Glyptography: Prisma can make magical gemstones. Thaumar has bought 2 pathfinding rubies from her to make a special messenger pigeon.
  • Heat immunity and minor pyrokinesis: Prisma can walk on hot sand and even fire without burning, but she does sustain blisters that heal easily once the affected area has been cooled down (like bubbles in boiling water). Prisma can summon flaming white and red rose petals that can be used for warming, cleansing and healing. She can't control or generate fire itself, however.
  • Photographic memory: Prisma is good at visually remembering places she has visited thought this makes it difficult for her to give directions to others given the fact that she only remembers the sights not the specific turns that lead to a location.
  • Spinning thread
  • Sensing morality: Prisma's hands seem miraculously soft for someone who has been regularly doing many laborious tasks. They allow her to feel whether someone is morally corrupt through touch. If their hands feel human, at best like a child's, that person is good. Should they feel like some beastly limb such as a slimy snake's body or a hairy monkey's hand, they are corrupt. This ability can be applied to animals to judge their trustworthiness. Prisma dresses up this ability as palm reading and occasionally shows off this power at local fairs and conventions for some extra cash.
  • Prisma can listen to animal speak but so far has only learned to speak to airfish and pigeons. She doesn't brush off animal noises like most people do but rather perceives the sounds as gibberish for animals she has yet to understand, like someone listening to a language they don't know.

Interests[]

  • Broom making
  • Surfing
  • Bowls
  • Collecting:
  • Beachcombing: Her favorite finds are sea glass, pebbles and coral. She enjoys stacking pebbles on the beach.
  • Crystals: She likes opals and agates, as well as color changing gemstones. She carries a small opal knife around sometimes.

Thoughts on destiny[]

Parallels[]

The Golden Key[]

  • Prisma’s appearance is based on both Tangle’s and the Grandmother’s looks.
  • She was raised in conditions similar to Tangle’s before she left.
  • She walks barefoot just like how the Grandma prefers.
  • Prisma’s dislike of uncleanliness is a nod to the fairies that scared Tangle. They wanted to get rid of the dirty maids.
  • Prisma’s time blindness is a nod to Tangle’s inability to notice time lapses during her journey.
  • Prissy’s dorm having secret compartments references the hidden door to grandmother’s house. Her bed is based on the bed described in the story.
  • Inspired by another Old Man of the Sea, Prisma likes getting piggyback rides from her taller friends.

The Princess and the Goblin/The Princess and Curdie[]

  • One of Prisma’s pets is a kind of pigeon. She makes and eats pigeon egg based mayonnaise. Queen Irene/Grandmother raises pigeons.
  • Prisma spins gold for Rumpelstiltskin as practice and with ease. Grandmother spent nights spinning a super fine thread for Princess Irene.
  • Her hair is long and untied, much like Grandmother’s.
  • She wears mood gems, opals and heather gems. Grandmother uses colorful enchanted gems in both stories,

Pets[]

Sisyphus, aka Sissy the rock (Pet rock. Not kidding.)[]

Prisma doesn’t want to own a pet in the traditional sense, not because she doesn’t like the hassle of caring for a living creature but because she doesn’t want to deny the creature’s ultimate reward of being eaten, which is considered the highest honor an animal can receive in Fairyland. She is rather busy so she can’t afford to care for a real pet. Instead, she grabbed a cobble from her dad’s favorite reading spot in the woods and named it after Sisyphus, alluding to her opnions about her own story being Sisyphean in nature and the futility of having affections for a rock. Prisma knows very well Sissy would outlive her without any assistance but still cares for the stone as a gag, going as far as posting pictures of herself hanging out with Sissy in her Mirror Blog with quirky captions under them. What she actually ends up taking care of is the terrarium she created as a habitat for Sissy. It contains moss and colorful living stone succulents.

Flying vacuum pig[]

One of Valeska's wacky contraptions became another weird pet for Prisma. Conceptually, according to Valeska, it is a roomba equipped with a pair of plastic flapping wings, a snout to suck dirt in three dimensions and some small wheels to roll around. Prisma uses the pig as a makeshift hover board to glide down stairs.

Unnamed Otter[]

She summoned the otter during Animal Calling

Aurelina the heather beast[]

Aurelina is Prisma’s interpretation of Lina, the chimeric beast owned by Old Princess Irene. She was created from heather branches and roots bounded with ropes and was given life through Prisma’s magic touch.

Eudaemonia (Crowned Pigeon)[]

Given to her by Morganite Bérylune.

School Life[]

Valeska Azimova - Roommate[]

Blondie Lockes - Enemy[]

Prisma despises Blondie. For someone whose job is to inform others, she sacrifices truth in the name of entertainment. Prisma hates Blondie for her fearmongering and disrespect for the people and businesses she's covered on her MirrorCast. It doesn't help that Blondie once invaded her boundaries trying to get a scoop on Prisma's "weirdness", forcing her to send Aurelina and some spider leg furniture to kick Blondie out.

Mariposa Lavador - Friend[]

Good cop and bad cop but make it tarot reading. Prisma uses her anility to sense morality for her readings, tends to be blunt.

Morgane Berlingot - BFFEA[]

An upperclassman and fellow fairy godmother in training. Although Prisma is not part of the fairy godparent industry, she was given training due to her role fitting into the trope. Morgane was tasked with guiding Prisma since she was a new member of assigned to her postman group.

Katarina Williwaw - BFFEA[]

Sophinx Riddleton - Client[]

Prisma makes and sells heather brooms to get money for new books and as her allowance. One of her most frequent customers is the future killer queen Sophinx, though Prisma isn’t aware of that. Sophinx often comes to buy brooms in bulk and would come back for more within a week. She’s strangely very generous about payments too, going as far as to pay an extra quarter of the price. Prisma’s heard that Sophinx is a witch but she still can’t help but wonder why she’s been getting so many orders from this princess. Her brooms aren’t made for flying. Even so, there’s no imaginable way Sophinx could damage them all at that rate. Or so she thought?

Rumpelstiltskin - Teacher[]

Outfits[]

Basic[]

Prisma clear

Prisma wears a long emerald linen dress with an empire waist tied by a brown sash. It has a flowy skirt stops right below her knees with multiple folds that is embroidered with little pictures of airfish, aeranthes and purple heaths. There are also some puffy sleeves, which makes the dress look kinda like an old-fashioned night gown. She usually goes barefoot but Prisma does carry around a pair of flip flops that she can slip between her toes for an easy switcheroo once she’s done using them. She wears a rainbow mood bracelet with colorful beads that have matrix filled with gold, silver and bronze.

  • Her mood bracelet is a reference to the balls owned by the Old Man of the Fire. The metal-filled veins reference the streams of metal in the desert that Tangle encounters after leaving the Old Man.

What Was Once Paradise - Cranberries[]

After entering the gnarls, the dove on her hair clip begins to bleed, with droplets of blood represented by red teardrop jewels. Her jellyfish shawl is covered with red cranberry gems like a cranberry bog and her water drop necklace becomes a blood necklace. Her slippers transform into floral Wellington boots. Scalloped ribbons grow from her skirt are made to look like jellyfish tendrils.

Dorm Room[]

Prisma sleeps on a bed of dried heathers covered by a wrapper made of iridescent air fish feathers. Over the bed is a triangular wooden ardor covered in ivy. She keeps Sissy’s glass terrarium on a nightstand by the bed. It is made in the shape of a Corinthean column. Much of her furniture such as seats and tables are made to look like Greek and Roman columns and painted in pastel versions of all the colors of the rainbow. Her room is full of secret compartments such as a trap door in the floor and some hidden cabinets in the wall.

Trivia[]

  • Prisma is my third attempt at a daughter of Tangle. She first started off as a head canon of the blonde girl with a key from the EAH theme song, then was written as her own character for a next gen role play group on deviantArt in 2015, this time under the name Prissy Tangle.
  • Prisma shares her birthday (October 27th) with poet Sylvia Plath. Opals are the birthstone of October.
  • Prisma is deathly afraid of bears. Don’t even think about giving her a teddy bear as a birthday present.
  • Prisma’s main quote is taken from Sola’s own poem written for schoolwork.
